Description
North to Cheyenne, The Long Road Home: This novel was written in 2019. When I wrote it, I wasn’t thinking of it in terms of a series. However, it became the first novel in my Home on the Range series. It begins on the Dandy Frank, a river boat that was actually on the Mississippi River in 1868. It follows Lance Rankin as he travels cross-country from his family plantation in Georgia to the ranch he plans to purchase in Cheyenne, Wyoming. His trip home is far more eventful than he had anticipated with difficult terrain, new friends, and hostile Indians.
I also made Barney Ford, an ex-slave and real-life fast-food entrepreneur a part of this story. The Ford House was a popular eating establishment in early Cheyenne, and I made it the chosen eating house for Lance’s Rocking R riders.
Barney ford is an important part of Colorado and Wyoming history. He also became one of the wealthiest men of his time in the west. You will see Mr. Ford play a part in the first three novels. In real life, the town of Cheyenne gave him a parade when he moved permanently from their community.
