Curly, the Orphan Calf: This is the story of a baby calf whose mother cow tries to save her calf’s life. It follows Curly from the terrible fire shortly after she was born to making new friends, and finally to a new but completely different life. Curly, the Orphan Calf, is fiction but was written after the spring fires of 2017 devastated parts of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Much livestock died as a result of the fires and I wanted to highlight the goodness of people as they stepped forward to help those in need. This story plays on those acts of kindness and takes the reader through to a happy ending for the little orphan calf. Age: 3-12
